Pope Leo's Message to America

Bishop Barron's Sermon for the Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

  • Tuesday, July 7th 6:15 p.m. Mystery of Faith, ICP Library

We are reviewing a series from Ascension Press on the life of Mary from a biblical perspective.  In this session we will consider why Mary goes “with haste” to visit Elizabeth and the significance of Elizabeth’s greeting to Mary: “Blessed ... among women” and “mother of my Lord”—honorable titles that had not been given to anyone in Israel for centuries.

Next, we will look at Mary’s response of praise in a prayer known as the Magnificat (verses 46-55). And finally, we will consider how Luke narrates Mary’s visit to Elizabeth in ways that recall a famous journey made by the Ark of the Covenant—the sacred vessel over which God’s holy presence dwelt in the Old Testament. Why does the Bible associate Mary with the Ark  of  the Covenant and what does this tell us about her?

Please join us Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. in the ICP Library for a meal, fellowship and scripture.

Mystery of Faith focuses on bring forward biblical studies using strong Catholic media such as Ascension Press and Augustine Institute among others. We meet on Tuesdays evenings all year long and any session is a good session to join.
